Demons looking to send Swans packing

Sunday afternoon football kicks off with the Kangas and Dogs doing battle in what has been a very tight encounter in recent years.

Sunday's feature game will see Melbourne attempt to shore up a finals position, denting the Swans' finals chances in the process.

Finally, both the Dockers and Blues will fight it out for a desperately-needed win.

North Melbourne v Western Bulldogs

AFL Odds: North Melbourne $1.30 (-23.5) / Western Bulldogs $3.55 (+23.5)

Sitting just outside the top eight with only three rounds left, every game is must-win for the Kangaroos in their quest to secure a finals berth.

And this could prove a tricky encounter against local rivals the Western Bulldogs, who had a strong win last week over the Saints.

Marcus Bontempelli had a whale of a third quarter, booting four goals that turned the game on its head.

The Roos will need to be wary of "the Bont", as well as Jason Johanissen who also impressed last week with a whopping 42 disposals off half-back.

When these two Dogs are up and about, they look every bit the side that triumphed in the 2016 Grand Final.

The Kangas meanwhile only just escaped with the four points by the skin of their teeth last round.

A commanding performance is needed to get the better of the Dogs, and prove they deserve a spot in the finals.

AFL Player In Shaun Higgins (Kangaroos)

AFL Player Out None

AFL Weather Nothing to report with the closed roof.

AFL Player StatsAFL Stats in Focus

AFL Stats

The Roos key advantage comes from both their ability to generate more shots from their inside 50 entries, and their superior goal kicking accuracy.

Much of this is down to Ben Brown, who is currently leading the Coleman Medal race.

But Brown has been quiet of late.

With noted sharp shooter Tory Dickson playing his second game back from injury, the Bulldogs goal kicking should improve.

Key AFL Stat

  • The last 3 games between the Kangas and Dogs have been decided by a margin of 3 points or less: Either team to win by less than 15.5 points @ $3.20

AFL Betting TipAFL Betting Tip: Western Bulldogs to win head-to-head @ $3.55

Reasoning: Even though the Roos have more to play for, and are bolstered by the return of Higgins, the Bulldogs looked very impressive in their second-half display last week.

A repeat of that will see a win in what in recent years has been a tight match-up.

Melbourne v Sydney

AFL Odds: Melbourne $1.37 (-21.5) / Sydney $3.10 (+21.5)

Both of these clubs had big wins in Round 20: Melbourne in terms of the scoreline, Sydney in terms of the importance of the result.

The Swans needed to win against the Pies and they did so in an absolute nail-biter, with the league's youngest player Tom McCartin kicking a miraculous goal to win the game.

Buddy was also back and firing with six goals, which could have been even more after three of his shots hit the post.

But after their 96-point victory last week, the Demons look a fearsome opponent for the Sydneysiders.

Their high scoring footy will test the Swans who like to keep their games low-scoring and tight.

If the Dees can overcome their woeful record against top eight opposition, they will go a long way towards securing a finals' berth, and putting a substantial dent in Sydney's finals chances in the process.

AFL Player In Jake Melksham (Melbourne, likely), Gary Rohan (Sydney, likely), Dan Hannebery (Sydney, likely)

AFL Player Out None

AFL Weather A little bit of rain around, but not enough to play into Sydney's hands.

AFL Player Stats AFL Stats in Focus

AFL Stats

The Demons look to have just too many points in them for the Swans to keep up with.

Only a Buddy special would turn this around. He is more than capable based on last week's display.

Key AFL Stat

  • Melbourne have lost all 4 games against top 8 opposition in 2018: Sydney to win head-to-head @ $3.10

AFL Betting TipAFL Betting Tip: Melbourne to cover the -21.5 point line @ $1.92

Reasoning: Their inability to prove their mettle against top 8 opposition is the only query on Melbourne's ability to win and win big.

Fremantle v Carlton

AFL Odds: Fremantle $1.23 (-27.5) / Carlton $4.20 (+27.5)

Round 21 winds down in a sedate fashion, with the Blues traveling to Perth to take on the Dockers.

While only the most rusted on fans of both clubs will pay much attention to the game, it remains an interesting clash from a punting view point.

Both clubs were humiliated last week: the Dockers losing by 58 in the Derby, and the Blues by 105 at home to the Giants.

The winner will be the side who can bounce back, and with the home ground advantage, you'd have to lean towards the Dockers.

AFL Player In Nat Fyfe (Fremantle, likely), Matthew Kreuzer (Carlton, likely), Jacob Weitering (Carlton, likely)

AFL Player Out Andrew Brayshaw (Fremantle)

AFL Weather Sunny conditions, so Freo might get a few more home fans through the gate.

AFL Stats

When two struggling teams are playing, these are the two stats to look at when considering which team is busting their gut to remain competitive.

With a big advantage in the tackling stats, you can't envisage another huge blowout for the Blues.

Key AFL Stat

  • Fremantle have won 5 of their 7 home matches following a loss in 2018: Fremantle to win head-to-head @ $1.23

AFL Betting TipAFL Betting Tip: Carlton to cover the +27.5 point line @ $1.92

Reasoning: Their performance from two weeks ago suggest the Blues are right in this one. However, if Fyfe starts for the Dockers, you may want to reconsider.

Standard Tipping Rules (Betting Prices Game)
  • Each winning tip score equals the price of the team at the time the tip is submitted as appearing on your tipping screen.
  • If no prices are available, the score for a winning tip will equal the starting price of the winning team at Sportsbetting.com.au
  • For NRL tipping - If the match is a draw at full time, tip score equals the price of the team awarded for selecting the winner of the golden point play off. If it is still a draw after golden point no points are awarded for the game.
  • For AFL, Super Rugby and Mitre 10 Rugby competitions - No points are awarded for drawn games.
  • For A-League/EPL you must select the 'Draw' to receive the price when the match results in a draw. If you select a team in a drawn match you will receive no points for the match.
  • A score margin is required to be entered for 1 game within the round.
Margin Games
  • For one match in each round you will be required to enter a margin. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire competition if the tipping scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better.
  • Calculating margins

If the team you tip wins the match, your margin score is the difference between the actual margin in the Full Time Score that the team you tipped won by, and the margin your entered. For example if you tipped Australia

Full time score Australia 54 vs Italy 6
    Margin entered 36
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 - 36 = 12

If the team you tipped loses the match, your margin score is the actual margin plus the margin entered. For example if you tipped Italy:

Full time score Australia 54 vs Italy 6
    Margin entered 6
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 + 6 = 54

  • If a tipper does not submit a tip for a game they are awarded the away team.
  • If a tipper does not submit any tips for a round then they do not receive points for the first winning tip in that round.
  • Tips can be entered up to advertised start time for the game.
  • After the advertised start time has passed tips for the game cannot be entered.
  • Tips cannot be changed after they are submitted.
  • For competitions where tippers enter a margin, the margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the overall competition if the tip scores are equal. For example if two tippers share 1st place on 100 points, the tipper with the lowest margin score will be the winner.
  • If the margin feature is not turned on and tippers have equal tipping scores, or if tippers have equal tipping scores and equal margins, the winner will be awarded using a count back system where the tipper who led most recently will be awarded the prize.
  • If tippers cannot be split using these methods then the prize will be shared.
Standard Tipping Rules (Points Game)
  • Picks are entered for each game in a round. 1 point is awarded for picking the winner of the match.
  • A bonus 2 point are awarded for picking a perfect round.
  • For NRL picking - If the match is a draw at full time, 1 point is awarded for selecting the winner of the golden point play off. If it is still a draw after golden point no points are awarded for the game.
  • For AFL, Super Rugby and Mitre 10 Rugby competitions - If the match result is a draw, no points are awarded for picks in the match.
  • For A-League/EPL you must select the 'Draw' to receive 1 point when the match results in a draw. If you select a team in a drawn match you will receive no points for the match.
  • A margin score is required to be entered for one match in each round. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire contest if the scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better the entrant is deemed to have performed.
Score Margin Information
  • For one match in each round you will be required to enter a score margin. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire competition if the picking scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better.

  • Calculating margins

If the team you pick wins the match, your margin score is the difference between the actual margin in the Full Time Score that the team you picked won by, and the margin you entered. For example, if you picked New Zealand in the following scenario:

Full time score New Zealand 54 vs Australia 6
    Margin entered 36
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 - 36 = 12

If the team you picked loses the match, your margin score is the actual margin plus the margin entered. For example, if you picked Australia for the same scenario:

Full time score New Zealand 54 vs Australia 6
    Margin entered 6
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 + 6 = 54
  • If a entrant does not submit a pick for a game, they are assigned the away team as their pick for that game.
  • If a entrant does not submit any picks for a round, as a penalty, they do not receive points for their first winning pick in that round. For example, if 8 away teams win in the round that the entrant missed, then 7 points will be awarded.
  • Picks can be entered up to advertised start time for the game.
  • After the advertised start time has passed picks for the game cannot be entered or changed.
  • Picks can be changed up to the advertised start time of the game.
  • Points awarded to entrants will be aggregated at the completion of each round during the contest, and entrants will be ranked in accordance with the points they scored and their margin score for the round.

  • For competitions where entrants enter a margin, the margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the overall competition if the pick scores are equal. For example if two entrants share 1st place on 100 points, the entrant with the lowest margin score will be the winner.
  • If there is tip score and margin score tie-break, the winner of the round or the overall competition will be the entrant who was first to enter their picks.
  • If entrants cannot be split using these methods then the prize will be shared.
