NRL Betting Tips: Round 24 the early games

Toothless Tigers and the featherless Sea Eagles

Tigers v Sea Eagles

NRL Odds: Wests Tigers $1.53 (-5.5) / Manly Sea Eagles $2.50 (+5.5)

The Tigers let their finals hopes slip last week, going down to an under-strength Dragons at Leichhardt Oval.

To have any hope of making the finals, Ivan Cleary's men must now win their final two games by big margins and rely on the Warriors or Broncos to lose their remaining games.

Meanwhile, across the harbour, the Sea Eagles have spent another week in the headlines after coming off the rails against the Titans last week.

Leading 22-6 just before half-time, Manly surrendered their lead and fell to the Titans, 34-42, in what was a woeful defensive display.

With the wooden-spoon now a realistic threat, Manly fans will be hoping for a more consistent performance against the Tigers this week.

This is an intriguing match-up. The Tigers have built their season by applying pressure to their opposition, ranking 2nd for completion rate and forced drop-outs.

In contrast, the Sea Eagles have conceded more points than any other team this season and have a poor completion rate, ranking 10th in the league.

NRL Player In A Twal (Tigers), J Aloiai (Tigers), J Gosiewski (Sea Eagles)

NRL Player Out E Taylor (Tigers), J Liddle (Tigers), F Winterstein (Sea Eagles)

NRL Weather Fine and 13 degrees.

NRL Stats Key NRL stats

  • Average points scored: Tigers 15.7 / Sea Eagles 21.1
  • Average points conceded: Tigers17.7 / Sea Eagles 25.1
  • The Tigers have won three of their past five against the Sea Eagles

NRL Betting TipKey NRL Betting Stats

  • Of the Tigers 11 wins 9 have been by a margin of 1-12: Tigers 1-12@ $3.10
  • Luke Brooks (2) leads the Tigers in first try scorers this season: Luke Brooks first try @ $23
  • Clashes at Campbelltown Stadium have averaged 38 total match points: Under match line of 40.5 points @ $1.90

NRL Betting Tip NRL Betting Tip: No Bet

Reasoning: The Tigers disappointed last week and can't be backed with any confidence. The word out of the Manly camp is the players are all behind coach Trent Barret, which could well throw up a surprise result. Too many variables in play here.

Warriors v Panthers

NRL Odds: New Zealand Warriors $1.67 (-3.5) / Penrith Panthers $2.20 (+3.5)

Last week, the Warriors failed against the less fancied Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.  That loss prolongs their efforts to secure a finals birth, which if it comes, will be their first since 2011.

New Zealand had plenty of opportunities to win but were unable to overcome a gritty Dogs outfit which saw them sail to a one-point victory after an unforgettable Lachlan Lewis field goal.

Across the ditch, the Panthers were outclassed by the Knights in a 20-12 loss at Panthers Stadium, and in doing so relinquished their top-four position.

With five-eighth James Maloney still out injured, half-back Nathan Cleary will have a new halves partner in Tyrone Peachey, who replaces Tyrone May.

In a blow for the Warriors, they will also be without their starting five-eighth, Blake Green, who is set to miss this clash with a calf injury.

With a home record of five wins from 10 games, the Warriors are no certainties at Mt Smart, while Penrith, with an away record of six wins from ten games, will fancy their chances on the road.

NRL Player In  M Lino (Warriors), T Harris (Warriors), C Crichton (Panthers), J Fisher-Harris (Panthers)

NRL Player Out B Green (Warriors), L Pulu (Warriors), S Katoa (Panthers), K Ellis (Panthers)

NRL Weather Mostly sunny and 9 degrees.

NRL Stats Key NRL stats

  • Average points scored per game: Warriors 18.9 / Panthers 21.8
  • Average points conceded per game: Warriors 18.9 / Panthers 18.6
  • The Panthers have won four of their last five games against the Warriors

NRL Betting TipKey NRL Betting Stats

  • 8 of 10 Warriors home games have resulted in 'UNDER' total match points - Under match line of 38.5 points @ $1.90
  • Solomone Kata (3) leads both teams in first try scorers this season - Solomon Kata first try scorer @ $11
  • Clashes at Mt Smart Stadium have averaged 30.6 total match points - Under  32.5 points @ $3.05

NRL Betting Tip NRL Betting Tip: Under match line of 38.5 points @ $1.90 NRL Betting Tip

Reasoning: Both teams are without key halves which will limit their point scoring ability. Expect to see the usual low-scoring affair on a cold Auckland night.

Cowboys v Eels

NRL Odds: North Queensland Cowboys $1.50 (-5.5) / Parramatta Eels $2.60 (+5.5)

The battle for the wooden-spoon heats up in Townsville this Friday night!

Tied at the bottom of the ladder and with only 10-points difference between them, this clash between last year's heavyweights looks set to determine the dreaded last-place finish. Both teams have shown little in the way of class and quality this year, with this game set up to be an absolute horror for the rugby league purist.

The bookies have opened the Cowboys as short priced favourites, in the hope that Jason Taumololo, Matt Scott and Jordan McLean will be able to power over the top of the Eels forward pack and stop the unthinkable – sending JT out with the wooden spoon.

The loss of Nathan Brown to injury is a massive blow for the Eels, who will now look to former Rooster Kane Evans and club captain Tim Mannah to lead from the front.

NRL Player In  M Scott (Cowboys), J Taumololo (Cowboys), K Evans (Eels), C King (Eels), T Mannah (Eels)

NRL Player Out  C Jensen (Cowboys), E Lowe (Cowboys), N Brown (Eels), O Kaufusi (Eels), R Stone (Eels)

NRL Weather Mostly sunny and 21 degrees.

NRL Stats Key NRL stats

  • Average points scored: Cowboys 18.5 / Eels 20.1
  • Average points conceded: Cowboys 25.1 / Eels 14.2
  • The Cowboys have won three of their past five games against the Eels

NRL Betting TipKey NRL Betting Stats

  • Parramatta has lost 12 consecutive away games: Cowboys HTH @ $1.50
  • Jarryd Hayne (2) leads both teams in first try scorers this season: Jarryd Hayne  first try @ $12
  • Clashes at 1300 Smiles Stadium have averaged 37.4 total match points: Under match line of 39.5 points @ $1.90

NRL Betting TipNRL Betting Tip: Cowboys to win by a margin of 1-12 @$2.90

Reasoning: Being the last home game of JT's career, the Cowboys will want to send their captain out on a high. Expect a fired up Cowboys to prove too strong for the Eels, who do possess enough firepower to stay in the arm-wrestle for the most part.

Standard Tipping Rules (Betting Prices Game)
  • Each winning tip score equals the price of the team at the time the tip is submitted as appearing on your tipping screen.
  • If no prices are available, the score for a winning tip will equal the starting price of the winning team at Sportsbetting.com.au
  • For NRL tipping - If the match is a draw at full time, tip score equals the price of the team awarded for selecting the winner of the golden point play off. If it is still a draw after golden point no points are awarded for the game.
  • For AFL, Super Rugby and Mitre 10 Rugby competitions - No points are awarded for drawn games.
  • For A-League/EPL you must select the 'Draw' to receive the price when the match results in a draw. If you select a team in a drawn match you will receive no points for the match.
  • A score margin is required to be entered for 1 game within the round.
Margin Games
  • For one match in each round you will be required to enter a margin. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire competition if the tipping scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better.
  • Calculating margins

If the team you tip wins the match, your margin score is the difference between the actual margin in the Full Time Score that the team you tipped won by, and the margin your entered. For example if you tipped Australia

Full time score Australia 54 vs Italy 6
    Margin entered 36
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 - 36 = 12

If the team you tipped loses the match, your margin score is the actual margin plus the margin entered. For example if you tipped Italy:

Full time score Australia 54 vs Italy 6
    Margin entered 6
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 + 6 = 54

  • If a tipper does not submit a tip for a game they are awarded the away team.
  • If a tipper does not submit any tips for a round then they do not receive points for the first winning tip in that round.
  • Tips can be entered up to advertised start time for the game.
  • After the advertised start time has passed tips for the game cannot be entered.
  • Tips cannot be changed after they are submitted.
  • For competitions where tippers enter a margin, the margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the overall competition if the tip scores are equal. For example if two tippers share 1st place on 100 points, the tipper with the lowest margin score will be the winner.
  • If the margin feature is not turned on and tippers have equal tipping scores, or if tippers have equal tipping scores and equal margins, the winner will be awarded using a count back system where the tipper who led most recently will be awarded the prize.
  • If tippers cannot be split using these methods then the prize will be shared.
Standard Tipping Rules (Points Game)
  • Picks are entered for each game in a round. 1 point is awarded for picking the winner of the match.
  • A bonus 5 points are awarded for picking a perfect round.
  • For NRL picking - If the match is a draw at full time, 1 point is awarded for selecting the winner of the golden point play off. If it is still a draw after golden point no points are awarded for the game.
  • For AFL, Super Rugby and Mitre 10 Rugby competitions - If the match result is a draw, no points are awarded for picks in the match.
  • For A-League/EPL you must select the 'Draw' to receive 1 point when the match results in a draw. If you select a team in a drawn match you will receive no points for the match.
  • A margin score is required to be entered for one match in each round. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire contest if the scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better the entrant is deemed to have performed.
Score Margin Information
  • For one match in each round you will be required to enter a score margin. The margin represents the amount that you predict your selected team will win by. Your margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the entire competition if the picking scores are equal. The lower your margin score the better.

  • Calculating margins

If the team you pick wins the match, your margin score is the difference between the actual margin in the Full Time Score that the team you picked won by, and the margin you entered. For example, if you picked New Zealand in the following scenario:

Full time score New Zealand 54 vs Australia 6
    Margin entered 36
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 - 36 = 12

If the team you picked loses the match, your margin score is the actual margin plus the margin entered. For example, if you picked Australia for the same scenario:

Full time score New Zealand 54 vs Australia 6
    Margin entered 6
    Actual Margin 48
    Margin Score 48 + 6 = 54
  • If a entrant does not submit a pick for a game, they are assigned the away team as their pick for that game.
  • If a entrant does not submit any picks for a round, as a penalty, they do not receive points for their first winning pick in that round. For example, if 8 away teams win in the round that the entrant missed, then 7 points will be awarded.
  • Picks can be entered up to advertised start time for the game.
  • After the advertised start time has passed picks for the game cannot be entered or changed.
  • Picks can be changed up to the advertised start time of the game.
  • Points awarded to entrants will be aggregated at the completion of each round during the contest, and entrants will be ranked in accordance with the points they scored and their margin score for the round.

  • For competitions where entrants enter a margin, the margin score will be used to determine the winner of a round or the overall competition if the pick scores are equal. For example if two entrants share 1st place on 100 points, the entrant with the lowest margin score will be the winner.
  • If there is tip score and margin score tie-break, the winner of the round or the overall competition will be the entrant who was first to enter their picks.
  • If entrants cannot be split using these methods then the prize will be shared.
